First Post!!!!!!!!!…… I hope it´s just the first of a long stream!
….. A new book by Giles Tremlett arrived to my hands recently. I was recommended to read one chapter as an English exercise. “How the bikini saved Spain”, explains the origins of Benidorm and its evolution up to our present times………it looks surprising to read how this small fishy village turned out to be one of the icons of present package tourism. More surprising to discover how Franco was involved directly in its foundation….. Spaniards & Foreigners are analyzed within the new environment created by the phenomenon of foreign “urbanizaciones”. Corruption and some of its main characters as Jesús Gil and Julian Muñoz are also traped within the focus of the author.
All in all an interesting view from an outsider about the history and present of coast´s overdevelopment. I am sure I will take a look at the other chapters. They look promising……………….
